Thailand’s Michelin Guide: Our top picks for Bangkok

Thailand sets the stage for the perfect foodie playground, its diverse and eclectic culture allowing chefs from around the globe to create culinary works that would tantalise the most discerning of taste buds. We take a look at three of our favourite restaurants that we think will feature on the country’s maiden Michelin Guide:

 

Gaggan

This one hardly needs introduction to any culinary aficionado that’s visited Bangkok. Voted as the number one restaurant in Asia for the past three years running, Gaggan sets the bar extremely high for itself and treats its diners to a culinary experience like no other. Located in Bangkok’s central district, the restaurant is set in a whitewashed colonial-style wooden house, bringing the homely feel to haute cuisine. Its menu focuses on Indian molecular cuisine, serving up familiar dishes – such as curries and breads – with its own modern twist on ethnic favourites.

Nahm

No Thai dining review would be complete without mentioning Nahm, helmed by Australian chef David Thomson, creating Thai dishes inspired by the county’s local flavours. David uses ingredients of the highest quality to whip up Thai masterpieces such as ‘Nahm's pad prik king pla duk fu’ (crispy catfish with red curry paste and ginger), providing for a complementary mix of red curry paste, wild ginger and crispy catfish. Every dish on the menu is representative of the chef’s painstaking effort to create dishes that exude a distinct flavour and texture.

Le Du

This one’s a treat for the eyes as much as it is for the taste buds. The restaurant balances classic and contemporary Thai like no other, with its menu revolving around Thitid Tassanakajohn’s use of Thai flavours in French-inspired creations. Seasonal ingredients (Le Du is quite literally derived from the Thai word for season) are the order of the day, with each dish presented as a Michelin-worthy piece of art that looks almost too good to eat. Their beverage pairings are also worth a mention, with the restaurant offering a list of beer, sake and wine to match the food.

The extensive list of restaurants that the Thai capital has to offer make it extremely difficult to separate the good from the better. That being said, these are three restaurants that we think will make the inaugural Michelin Guide in Thailand and that are definitely worth the visit.
